Tijdens deze basistraining ligt de focus op het ontwikkelen van culturele competentie. De volgende onderwerpen komen aan bod:
- Cultuur en culturele competentie
Inzicht verkrijgen in hoe culturen tot stand komen, wat verandering van cultuur betekent en het belang van wisselen van (cultuur)perspectief.
- Cultuurverschillen begrijpen
Het herkennen van verschillen bv in het omgaan met macht, hiërarchie, tijd enz. en vervolgens het verkennen van strategieën hoe daar mee om te gaan.
- Verkennen van culturele waarden
Bewustwording van de eigen waarden en die van de ander als voorwaarde om met verschillen te kunnen omgaan.
- Omgaan met verandering van cultuur
Verkennen van strategieën hoe je voor te bereiden op een verandering van cultuur bv. een fusie in een organisatie of verblijf in het buitenland.
- Succesvol communiceren
Kennis van cultuurverschillen vraagt om oefening in het succesvol aanpassen van je communicatiestijl in verschillende interculturele situaties.
Cursisten werken in kleine groepen. Ervaren, oefenen, discussie en inbreng van op eigen ervaring gebaseerde situaties staan centraal.
In de training wordt Trialogue (© Human Factors AS) als instrument gebruikt. Het onderliggende model is eenvoudig en biedt een stimulerend aanknopingspunt om het werken met en waarderen van diversiteit in de praktijk toe te passen.

During this basic training, the focus is on developing cultural competence. The following topics are covered:
- Culture and cultural competence
Gain insight into how cultures come about, what change of culture means and the importance of changing (cultural) perspective.
- Understand cultural differences
Recognizing differences eg in dealing with power, hierarchy, time etc. and then exploring strategies how to deal with that.
- Exploring cultural values
Awareness of one's own values and those of the other as a condition for dealing with differences.
- Dealing with a change of culture
Exploring strategies how to prepare for a change of culture eg a merger in an organization or a stay abroad.
- Communicate successfully
Knowledge of cultural differences requires practice in successfully adapting your communication style in different intercultural situations.
Students work in small groups. Experience, practice, discussion and input of situations based on personal experience are central.
Diversity Icebreaker(© Human Factors AS) is used as an instrument in the training course. The underlying model is simple and offers a stimulating starting point to apply working with and valuing diversity in practice.
