CREATIVE MUSIC PRODUCTION

CREATIVE MUSIC PRODUCTION

This is a music production course with a difference. We have chosen to develop a course that does more than simply recount the tips and tricks you need to make good Dance or Hip Hop. We work on the techniques and skills that will make you a better and more creative producer, in whatever style of music that you love to make.
The content of the 10-day course ranges from listening and analysis to recording and mixing skills, sampling and synthesis and creative use of effects. Each day you will work hands-on on a track, surrounded by other aspiring producers and assisted by professional producers with years of experience. At the end of the course you will not only have new music to take home with you but also a wealth of skills, knowledge, tips and tricks and hopefully a fresh mindset that will allow you to continue improving and developing for years to come.

Learning Goals:

LEARNING TO LISTEN
Good production stems from good listening skills. We work on how to listen to and to analyse a production, giving feedback on each other’s work and learning to hear our own productions as others hear them.

TAKING IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL
Once you know what you need to do better, you need the skills to do it. We cover Basic Recording, Dynamics, EQ, Effects, Sampling and Synthesis.

GETTING THE JOB DONE
Starting on a production is mostly a lot easier than completing it. We investigate various mixing and mastering techniques to help you get your tracks finished.

GETTING IT OUT THERE
Once your track is done you want people to hear it. We take a brief look at the music business and the ins and outs of getting your music released.

HOW IT WORKS
Every day we focus on a different aspect of music production. We mix and match workshops, theory and practical sessions, working on tracks that you have brought with you or music you make during the course. We can also supply multitrack recordings to practice on.

You will work with your own laptop and headphones, and your music software of choice. We recommend Pro Tools, Ableton Live, Cubase or Logic. Should you not have your own system, we can provide you with one for the duration of the course.
Professional assistance is always on hand should you get stuck, and we have feedback sessions each day so that the participants get to hear each other’s work and to share tips.

There will be some collaboration with other courses, for example Songwriting or Film Production so you can broaden your horizon and engage with other disciplines.
The results of the course will be presented during a fun and informal show on the final evening.
